Gorkha. The Jamara has been ritually kept at the Dashain Ghar of the Gorkha Durbar today. Sharada Prasad Bhattarai, the chief priest of Gorakhkali Temple, informed that the Jamara was offered at Dashainghar, Kalika Temple, Gorakhnath Temple and Upper Durbar at 9.13 am on the occasion of Ghatasthapana festival.

According to the tradition, the goddess Bhagwati was kept in the sanctum sanctorum (worship room) of the main palace from Kailash room this morning.

“After keeping the goddess in the Kailash room, the ritual of Ghatasthapana i.e. Jamara was kept in the morning,” he said, adding, “Before that, the utensils used in the worship of the goddess are washed at the Patangini of Kalika temple and necessary materials are prepared for the worship of Shailputri.” ’

He said that barley jamara has been kept at the Dashain Ghar and Kalika Temple of Gorkha Durbar. Similarly, four mana (jamara) have been placed at the Gorakhnath temple and one mana each in the upper and lower courts, according to Bhattarai, chief priest of the temple.

There is a belief that the Jamara is kept in every house by the Hindus only after the Jamara is placed in the Gorakhkali Temple in Gorkha on the day of Ghatasthapana. With the beginning of Pratipada, there is a tradition of offering sacrifices regularly in the Kalika temple from today.

Similarly, the ‘Jamara was also set up at another famous religious site in Gorkha Manakamana Temple this morning, said the main priest of the temple, Insaan Thapa. There is a religious belief that applying ‘jamara’ on the day of Ghatasthapana with tika on the day of Bijaya Dashami brings auspiciousness.
