Election schedule to be held on March 4 endorsed, party registration from December 1 to 20

Kathmandu. The Election Commission (EC) has approved the election schedule for the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 4. According to the EC, the political party registration programme has been set from November 14 to 26 for the purpose of election.

Issuing a press release today, EC Joint Secretary and Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai shared that the office of the returning officer would be established from January 2 for the first-past-the-post system. Similarly, the election campaign will be held from February 13 to 18 and thereafter there will be a period of prohibition of publicity.

The voting will take place from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm on March 4 and the counting of votes will begin after the ballot boxes of both the electoral systems are collected. According to the EC, the office of the returning officer will be established on November 30 and closed list will be submitted on January 1 and 19 for the proportional representation system.

The EC would hold consultations and discussions from time to time as per the election schedule approved for coordination and collaboration with the political parties and stakeholders in the election.

As per the law, only the political parties registered at the EC can register a political party for the purpose of the election.
