Kathmandu. The GenZ Movement Alliance has demanded the resignation of all the commissioners of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), including its chief commissioner Prem Kumar Rai. GenZ has issued a letter of request and pressure to resign today.

The government has also demanded the resignation of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, questioning the appointment process of Rai.

“The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) needs to appoint impartial, independent and competent officials and the appointment of all commissioners including Rai was made by the former Prime Minister Oli-led government in an autocratic manner by promulgating an ordinance without any parliamentary hearing,” the statement said.

“As you are aware, the main demands of the movement launched by Jane-G on September 7, 2082 BS are an end to corruption and impunity. To meet these demands, it is necessary to appoint impartial, independent and competent officials in the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA). Former Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli’s government has promulgated an ordinance to appoint all the commissioners without a parliamentary hearing. This raises a big question about your impartiality.

At the same time, there is a lot of criticism that your actions are politically biased, and your own name has been implicated in many corruption cases, including the wide-body scandal. Even the Special Court has clearly questioned the functioning of you and the entire Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority. It would not be wrong to assume that this will have a negative impact on all aspects, including ending corruption and punishing the guilty. There is no credible basis to believe that these actions can be done fairly under your leadership.

“Therefore, in this letter, we call on you and all the commissioners to resign immediately on moral grounds, respecting the sacrifice of 75 Nepalese citizens to end misgovernance, corruption and impunity,” the letter reads.
