Normal life affected in Sarlahi due to incessant rain

Sarlahi. The floods triggered by the incessant rainfall have affected normal life here. According to the District Police Office, around 1,619 families have been affected by the flood in the Lakhandehi River and they have been shifted to other places. A team of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force (APF) rescued 19 people trapped in the floods.

The water level in Lakhandehi, Jhim, Banke, Soti, Manusmara and other rivulets has risen and four villages in Balara municipality are at risk of being inundated. According to police, the Lakhandehi rivulet has caused the most damage in the district.

The flood in the river completely damaged 20 houses at Padariya, Chakraghatta rural municipality-1 and 150 meters of postal road at Kaudena rural municipality-3. The Brahmapuri-Bhaktipur-Chaulikha road section has been obstructed due to the flooded Kalbhat Adwara River at Brahmapuri rural municipality-7 in the district.

Baswariya Rural Municipality, Chakraghatta Rural Municipality, Malangwa Municipality, Balara Municipality, Dhankaul Rural Municipality, Barahathawa Rural Municipality, Kaudena Rural Municipality, Brahmapuri Rural Municipality, Harion Municipality, Godaita Municipality and Kabilasi Municipality have been affected by the floods. According to the District Police Office, 18 houses have been displaced by the flood in the Lakhandehi rivulet at Chakraghat rural municipality-5. The displaced families are living nearby in the neighbourhood.

Police also rescued two people trapped in the Bagmati River at Baswariya rural municipality of the district. The water from the Lakhandehi rivulet entered the houses of Bhadsar of Mangwa Municipality-5. Similarly, the customs office and police post at Gorakhkali of Malangwa municipality-8 have also been waterlogged.

Meanwhile, 900 houses have been inundated in wards 1, 3, 4 and 5. As many as 50 families of Chanki Tole of Ward No. 1 have been displaced after their houses were submerged in water. Similarly, Sahani Tola and Muslim Tola of Ward No. 4 of the same municipality have been inundated. Although the houses were inundated, the locals have been safely kept in the Bagmati Dam.

Dhankaul Rural Municipality-3, Harkathwa and Ward No. 4 Mahinathpur are at risk due to the monsoon rainwater. Spokesperson of the District Police Office, Sarlahi, Deputy Superintendent of Police Saroj Rai said there is a risk of water entering the village anytime. The water from the river has obstructed the road linking Dhankaul to Dharampur of Rautahat.

Similarly, the water from the Soti rivulet and Tikuliya rivulets in Barahathawa municipality has put settlements at risk of collapse. Meanwhile, floods have caused huge damages in Shivanagar of Kaudena rural municipality-7, ward-3, Kaudena, ward-5, Parsa and Chhapkaiya, and ward-6 in the district. Water has entered Shivanagar village due to the erosion of the dam.

Police have also rescued 17 locals from the area.

Nine-year-old Shivani Singh of Pipariya of Kabilasi Municipality-2 suffered a fracture in her leg when the wall of her house collapsed due to incessant rain. Water has also entered the houses of Kabilasi-8, Agharwa and Hempur of Ward No. 4 due to lack of drainage.

According to the District Police Office, the walls of the police post at Godaita-8, Godaita and Chandranagar-5, Mohanpur police post have collapsed. Similarly, the flood in Jhim River at Brahmapuri-4 was prevented by constructing dams.
