KATHMANDU: The Kanchenjunga base camp, Khambachen, Lonak and Pangpe, which used to be full of tourists during the tourist season, is now deserted. The southern base camps of Kanchenjunga, Cheiram and Ramjer, are also deserted.
According to tourism entrepreneurs, the base camp has become deserted after the tourists stopped coming to and from visiting with the end of the visiting season. Tenzing Serap Sherpa, a tourism entrepreneur, said that the hotel entrepreneurs have returned to the lower settlements after the tourist season ended.
Meanwhile, according to the statistics of the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Office, the number of foreign tourists coming here has been increasing in the last year. In the first season of the visit, 950 foreign tourists visited the Kanchenjunga area, said Tashi Tenzing Sherpa, tourism assistant at the Conservation Area Management Council.
According to him, sporadic number of tourists have arrived here even after November this year. He said that not only the number of foreigners but also domestic tourists visiting this area is increasing. According to him, 877 foreign tourists visited Kanchenjunga in the first season of last year.
