It is common responsibility of all Rokarwalas to make cooperative campaign effective: Minister Chaulagain

Let’s go to Kathmandu. The 33rd annual general meeting of the National Cooperative Federation of Nepal (NCFN) has been concluded.

Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Forest and Environment of Bagmati Province, Madhav Prasad Chaulagain, said that the cooperative campaign was a strong pillar of the country’s economy.

He said it was the common responsibility of not only the government but all stakeholders to make the campaign effective by resolving the challenges seen in the cooperative sector. He pointed out the need to further strengthen the role of cooperatives in economic prosperity by making them transparent, accountable and trustworthy.

Registrar of the Department of Cooperatives Sushil Dhakal expressed his commitment to take initiatives to resolve the problems seen in collaboration with the cooperative movement.

Stating that regulation of the cooperative sector was the biggest challenge at present, he stressed the need of bringing uniformity and clarity in the regulatory system. According to him, effective monitoring and policy-level reforms were inevitable to maintain people’s trust towards cooperatives.

The general assembly concluded that the federation should play more effective role in strengthening the cooperative sector, policy reforms, transparency and restoring trust. The meeting also expressed its commitment to further strengthen the cooperative movement and expand its contribution to the national economy.
