Kathmandu. The Tribhuvan University (TUTH) Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj has halted its health insurance programme. KATHMANDU: The Tribhuvan University (TU) has discontinued the health insurance programme to be effective from January 14.

The health insurance programme which has been regularly operated since 2077 BS has been closed with effect from Magh 1, said information officer at the hospital, Kali Prasad Rosiyara. He said that the service could not be operated after the Health Insurance Board did not provide payment for the treatment of the patients through the health insurance program.

Information Officer Rosyara said that the health insurance program could not be operated as the hospital incurs a monthly loss of Rs 20 million as it has to bear all kinds of daily expenses from internal sources.

“The number of patients coming for health insurance for treatment is increasing day by day. The insurance board has been approving only 50 percent of the claims and rejecting the rest. As of now, the insurance claim amount of the hospital is about Rs 40 crore,” the notice issued by the hospital administration reads.

Stating that the rates of the insurance board and the hospital are different for the treatment of patients coming to the hospital, Information Officer Rosiyara said that the hospital administration’s repeated requests for the last two years to consider the hospital amount as final have not been heard.
