Chitwan-Makwanpur’s MSME industry in poor condition

. The condition of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) operating in Chitwan and Makawanpur districts is deteriorating. According to a study report made public by Nepal Rastra Bank, the turnover of more than half of the industries in the district has been declining in recent period.

} According to the NRB’s study of the industries in Chitwan and Makwanpur, the business of about 52 percent of the total enterprises included has decreased. The report shows that the MSME business in the sector has increased by 27 percent during this period.

According to the report, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are considered to be important pillars of Nepal’s economy, but they have been under pressure due to various problems and challenges in recent period.TAG_OPEN_div_18 The study pointed out that lack of easy access to credit, difficulties in market expansion, complexity of tax system, administrative hassles and lack of skilled human resources are the major problems.

Small and micro entrepreneurs, in particular, have said that it is difficult to get loans from banks and financial institutions.TAG_OPEN_div_16 Entrepreneurs have complained that they have been facing problems in selling their products due to increased competition in the market and their income has not increased as per the cost of production.

TAG_OPEN_div_14 The report also shows significant participation of women entrepreneurs. Most of the micro and small enterprises in Chitwan and Makwanpur are women-led, indicating that the sector has an important role to play in women empowerment.

Although the condition of the infrastructure is comparatively satisfactory, the NRB has concluded that administrative services, tax system, government support programs, technology use and leadership capacity need to be improved.TAG_OPEN_div_12 According to the report, the weakness of these aspects has hampered the sustainable development of the industry.
