Kathmandu. The annual report of the Financial Information Unit under the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) for the fiscal year 2081÷82 shows that there has been a significant increase in suspicious transactions and activities. According to the report, the Suspicious Transaction and Activity Report (STR-SAR) increased by about 30 percent during the period compared to the previous fiscal year.
In the fiscal year 2081÷82, the unit received a total of 9,565 suspicious transactions and activities reports. An analysis of the reports received has also increased by about 40 percent compared to the previous year.
After analysis, 945 financial information reports based on suspicious transactions have been sent to the Nepal Police, Inland Revenue Department, Department of Revenue Investigation, Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority and other law enforcement agencies. According to the NRB, it has helped in the identification, investigation and prosecution of financial crimes.
According to the NRB, significant progress has also been made in the collection of financial information through the new (FIU) system. According to the report, the number of index institutions has more than doubled in a year.
