Mountaineering tourism: Nepal-Canada relations to be important

Kathmandu. An interaction program on mountaineering tourism was held on Nepal-Canada Relations.

Commemorating the 61st anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the speakers talked about the efforts to further strengthen the relations between Nepal and Canada at the government and private levels. Nepal and Canada formally established diplomatic relations in 1965.

On the occasion, Lakpa Dorjee Sherpa was honoured at a programme organized by Nepal-Canada Friendship Cultural Association.

Ang Tshering Sherpa, advisor of Nepal-Canada Friendship Cultural Association, presented a working paper on Nepal-Canada relations.

On the occasion, Sherpa presented a working paper on the issues related to tourism and mountaineering.

Vice-President of Nepal-Canada Friendship Cultural Association Prof. Dr. Gopal Pokhrel said.

Devesh Dhungana, a member of Nepal-Canada Friendship Cultural Society, talked about the economic, cultural and tourism relations between the two countries.

Engineer Keshav Kunwar, former president of Nepal-Canada Friendship Cultural Association, thanked the new team led by Niroj Maskey for their active work.

Maskey said the Association has been carrying out remarkable works in cultural, social, economic, educational and sports sectors since its inception to further strengthen the relations between the two countries.

“There are some cultural similarities between us and Canada. We are also rich in Himalayan culture, Canada is also a country with Himalayan culture and civilization. In the coming days, we will work out a plan to expand our people-to-people ties. ’

On the occasion, former chancellor of Nepal Academy, Ganga Prasad Upreti, stressed on the need for Canada and Nepal to work together on world-level social issues.

Lakpa Dorjee Sherpa, who was honored on the occasion, thanked the association and said that it was a proud moment for him to climb Mt Everest along with a Canadian citizen.

Sherpa had climbed Mt Everest with Canadian citizen Laurie Scarlett. Laurie Scarlett is the first Canadian to climb Mount Everest. Earlier, the association also honoured Nepal’s record runner Mira Rai.
