Private sector ready to invest in Budhigandaki hydropower project: Chair Dhakal

Kathmandu. President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Chandra Prasad Dhakal, has urged the concerned sides to expedite the construction of Budhigandaki Reservoir Hydropower Project.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the 10th Dhading Festival organized by Dhading Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Dhading Chamber of Commerce and Industry) here today, Dhakal stressed the need to forward the 120-megawatt Budhigandaki Hydropower Project which was much talked about for long. On the occasion, he signed a signature campaign launched to pile pressure on the government to expedite the construction of Budhigandaki Reservoir Hydropower Project.

Dhakal said that Nepal Development Public Limited (NDP) was established with the investment of entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs and investors from all over Nepal and they are ready to invest through this company on behalf of the private sector if there is a lack of resources in the project. There is immense potential for hydropower development in Nepal. The development of hydropower will help to further explore the potentials of minerals, agricultural production and other businesses here. We are ready to help if needed,” he said.

He also said that NDP is ready to invest in any potential sector in Dhading district such as mineral, agriculture and any other enterprise. According to him, the private sector has been completing projects on time, quality ÷and budget and resources.

“Many private industries, factories, hotels and business establishments were torched and damaged during the infiltration of the Jenji agitation in August. However, most of the private sector has now repaired, maintained and rebuilt those businesses. “The private sector has been completing any project on time, quality ÷and budget and resources,” he said.

Dhakal said the private sector was scared by the crackdown on the private sector and the attacks on the private businesses. “The private sector has produced it. Infrastructure has been built. Service has been provided. It has created jobs. Revenue has been paid. But why has the private sector always been neglected,” he complained.

President Dhakal said that the fair and festivals organized at the local level play a significant role in the promotion and marketing of local products.

“Fairs and festivals like these help promote local products and possibilities. We have been promoting such fairs and festivals with special importance as it will help expand economic activities and create employment at the local level,” he said.
