Nepalgunj. Banke – Indian eggs banned by the government have been found in shops bordering Banke district.
A joint market monitoring team seized eggs of Indian chicken from various shops in Jamunaha area of Nepalgunj. According to the Livestock Quarantine Office, the egg of a chicken was found at a shop in Jamunaha at a time when the government has banned the import of birds and bird products.
“We have been monitoring the market to create awareness and discourage illegal activities,” said Dr Hareram Yadav, chief of the Livestock Quarantine Office, Banke. Stating that import of poultry products from India has been banned since the last 10 years, he said that the import of chicken and egg illegally from India has been prohibited in Nepal.
A joint monitoring team of the quarantine team monitored more than 17 meat and hotels and shops and informed that some shops were destroyed by confiscating eggs as a retaliatory action. The team recovered more than 15 carats of eggs and destroyed them.
After the monitoring team suddenly went to the market for inspection, the shop owner had argued for some time saying that he should come for inspection after informing the market beforehand. Senior veterinary doctor at the Livestock Service Experts Centre, Banke, Dr Ganesh Pun said that efforts would be made to hide the weakness if the monitoring was carried out. The market monitoring was led by senior veterinary doctor Yadav, chief of the Livestock Quarantine Office, Nepalgunj. During the inspection, it was found that some of the shops were operating without registration, did not pay attention to cleanliness, did not renew their bills and did not keep the invoice in their signature.
