Kathmandu. A complaint has been lodged at the Home Ministry demanding investigation into the citizenship details of Balendra Sah (Balen), the candidate of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) from Jhapa constituency-5.
A complaint has been filed against Sah, who is also the former mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City.
Yubaraj Safal, a resident of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-31, has filed an application at the Ministry of Home Affairs demanding investigation into the matter.
According to the application, Sah had obtained citizenship number 1512 from the District Administration Office, Mahottari on December 20, 2006. The citizenship card has been mentioned as ‘Shah’. However, after the election of the mayor, the copy of citizenship certificate was obtained from the District Administration Office, Kathmandu on July 3, 2022.
The complaint has demanded to study the related files and documents to find out whether the details of citizenship have been changed or not and for necessary investigation.
According to Section 12 of the Nepal Citizenship Act, 2063, if it is proved that the citizenship has been obtained by submitting false information, such citizenship can be revoked.
Therefore, the Ministry of Home Affairs has been requested to bring the relevant documents and investigate and initiate necessary legal action.
The petitioners have also demanded to scrap the citizenship certificate if necessary and take action as per the law.
