Bhairahawa. Rupandehi: Police in Rupandehi have arrested 11 persons on the charge of violating prohibitory order imposed with the objective of conducting the House of Representatives election in a free, fair and fear-free environment.
According to the District Police Office’s information officer Krishna Kumar Chand, the team sealed off four liquor shops and arrested 11 people on the charge of selling and transporting liquor.
Police have arrested nine persons including the proprietor of a restaurant at Buddha Chowk of Siddharthanagar municipality-6. Likewise, police confiscated 110 bottles of liquor with the names ‘Dami’ and ‘Ishq’ from a liquor shop at Gonaha Chowk of Mayadevi rural municipality-5.
Similarly, two restaurants were held from Bhagalapur of Suddhodhan rural municipality-7 and Siyabhar of ward no. 3. The shops were sealed after they were found selling liquor during the prohibited period. Information Officer Chand said that monitoring has been tightened by mobilizing special teams to control alcoholism throughout the district.
The local administration has banned the sale and distribution of all types of alcohol and consumption in public places during the election period. Police have warned that action will be taken against those violating the prohibitory order.
Stating that the police were continuously monitoring the people involved in the activities against the election code of conduct, the police said that necessary steps would be taken to conduct the elections in a peaceful manner.
