Election Commission begins verification process on list submitted by parties

Kathmandu. The Election Commission (EC) has started the process of verification of 110 elected candidates for the proportional representation (PR) system submitted by six political parties who had crossed the three per cent threshold for the election to the House of Representatives held on March 4.

A total of 1,12,80,617 votes were cast under the proportional representation category. Of these, 1,08,35,025 votes were approved. The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), which got the highest number of votes, has submitted a list of 57 lawmakers according to the cluster.

Likewise, the Nepali Congress submitted the list of 20 candidates, the Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) 16, the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) nine, the Labour Culture Party and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) four each. Assistant spokesperson of the commission, Kul Bahadur GC, said that the process of verification of the list has been initiated.

GC said that if there is no error in the list of candidates submitted by the parties according to the cluster, the list of candidates will be published on Monday itself. It may take up to three days if the parties have to correct some errors in the list submitted by the parties according to the cluster.
