Ncell pays around Rs 5 billion renewal fee

Kathmandu. Ncell Axiata Pvt. Ltd. has paid Rs 4.96 billion to the government as license renewal fee for mobile services.

Ncell has deposited the amount in the account of Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) at Nabil Bank in Tindhara.

Out of the amount paid by Ncell, the remaining installment of renewal fee is Rs 4.25 billion. Similarly, Rs 64,92,60,273 for 328 days of interest from August 17, 2082 to Ashad 1, 2083 and Rs 6,53,21,917 for 33 days from August 17, 2083 to Ashad 17, 2083.

Ncell had already paid the installment and interest amount till August 20, 2082. Last year, the company paid Rs 3.29 billion on August 20 and Rs 2 billion on July 29, 2082.

The government had allowed Ncell to pay mobile service license renewal fees worth Rs 20 billion in four installments. In August 2081, the Council of Ministers had made a provision to charge 10 percent interest annually on the remaining installments.

Ncell had applied for the license renewal on May 28, 2081 paying Rs 4 billion as the first installment. After that, the remaining amount will be paid in installments as per the government’s decision.

With the latest payment, the payment process related to the license renewal fee of Ncell has moved forward.

Approximately 375 billion under taxes and fees

Since its inception, Ncell has contributed nearly Rs 375 billion to the government in taxes and fees. The company has paid the amount to the government under various headings including license fee, renewal fee, royalty, telecommunication service charge, income tax, among others.

An important chapter in Nepal’s telecommunication history of the entry of the private sector started with ‘Mero Mobile’. GSM Cellular Mobile Service came into operation on 16th Bhadra 2061 BS with the license.
