Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) forms five-member committee for winter power demand management

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has started the necessary preparations for the management of the increasing demand for electricity in the Kathmandu Valley and other areas in the upcoming dry season (winter). A meeting held at NEA on Tuesday decided to expedite necessary study and works regarding the management of demand and supply of electricity during the winter.

Necessary preparations have been made for the management of electricity demand and supply in the coming winter after the flood in the Trishuli River via Bhotekoshi of Rasuwa district damaged the production of electricity in the area.TAG_OPEN_div_18

The meeting chaired by NEA’s Executive Director Dirgha Kumar Shrestha was attended by Deputy Executive Director of Project Management Directorate and Transmission Directorate, chiefs of different departments and project chiefs.TAG_OPEN_div_16

The meeting has formed a five-member committee under the coordination of the director of the Bagmati Provincial Office to carry out necessary study and work for the management of winter electricity demand. The committee has been directed to submit the daily work progress report to the executive director and immediately inform about the problems seen in the course of implementation.TAG_OPEN_div_14

In the meeting, Executive Director Shrestha clarified that although there will be some pressure in the demand and supply management of electricity due to the stoppage of production from the power stations in the Trishuli River basin, there will be no load shedding in the coming winter. He said that necessary preparations for the management of electricity supply have already been started. The meeting also set a deadline for the completion of the transmission and distribution projects under construction in the Kathmandu Valley and surrounding areas.TAG_OPEN_div_12

Similarly, it has been decided to take necessary process by discussing various options to make the power supply of flood-affected Nuwakot and Rasuwa reliable. A team has also been mobilized to conduct an on-site study on the possibility of bringing the flood-damaged Devighat substation into operation.
