Baglung. At least 10 people have died and one is missing in a landslide triggered by incessant rainfall in Baglung.

Due to the rains, there has been a huge loss of life in the district in the last two days. On Sunday alone, nine people died and one is missing. One person died on Saturday.

According to District Police Office Baglung’s Chief Phanindra Prasain, four persons died while one went missing in Tamankhola rural municipality and five others in Nisikhola rural municipality on Sunday.

The deceased have been identified as Buddhiraj Gharti, 80, and Bhimdevi Gharti, 66, of Tamankhola Rural Municipality-3. The landslide has swept away eight houses in the same area.

The deceased have been identified as 50-year-old Hastabir Shreepali and 65-year-old Udisara Shripali. Hastabir’s wife went missing in the landslide.

Four members of a family were killed when a landslide buried their house at Jugjakhola of Nisikhola Rural Municipality-3. The deceased have been identified as 36-year-old Shyam Kumari BK, her sons Manoj, 13, Mukesh and three-year-old Nishan BK.

Similarly, 50-year-old Surya Bahadur Gharti was killed when a landslide buried his house in Rangil of Nisikhola Rural Municipality-6. Man Bahadur Roka, 59, died when a landslide buried his house in Dhasmar of Tarakhola Rural Municipality-5 on Saturday.

Chief District Officer of Baglung, Krishna Prasad Acharya, said that more human casualties were prevented due to prior warning. A team of security officials along with a Nepal Army helicopter had reached the landslide-affected area for the rescue.

Floods and landslides damage 24 houses in Tanahun

Floods and landslides triggered by rainfall over the past few days have damaged 24 houses at six local levels in Tanahun district.

Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office Tanahu, Dwarika Prasad Ghimire, said that the rains caused damages to five houses in Byas municipality, two houses in Myagde municipality, six houses in Ghiring rural municipality, two houses in Rishing rural municipality, four houses in Bandipur rural municipality and five in Bhanu municipality.

The police team has shifted the families of the damaged houses to a safe place. The details of the damage are being collected, police said. The landslide has damaged a rice mill in Byas Municipality-1 and soaked 100 sacks of paddy. A poultry farm and pig coop have also been swept away in Bhimad Municipality-6, Malebagar.

Flood damages Sita Cave premises in Devghat

The flood in the Kaligandaki River has swept away various structures and goods at Sita Cave premises in Devghat rural municipality-5 of Tanahu district.

According to the District Police Office, Tanahu, the flood swept away toilet, bathroom, Omkar idol with 108 Shivalings carved on big stones, store goods and other items near Sita cave.

After getting information about the incident, a police team from the Area Police Office, Devghat, reached the spot. The police shifted 76-year-old priest Shivananda Giri, who worshipped at Sita Cave, to a safer place, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Ghimire.
