Mustang. A seven-member team including Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chang Maoming reached Lomanthang of Upper Mustang on Saturday.
Chief District Officer of Mustang, Ajita Sharma, said, “The Chinese Ambassador arrived in Mustang via Korala transit and further details regarding the visit have not been received yet.”
The three-day visit includes five Chinese nationals and they are scheduled to leave for China from Lomanthang via Korala border point today.
According to Tasinarbu Gurung, chairperson of Lomanthang Rural Municipality, the Chinese ambassador has arrived in Mustang to take stock of the situation at Korala checkpoint.
The Chinese Ambassador’s visit to Mustang has assumed significance at a time when there has been demand for the resumption of Korala after Kerung Bhotekoshi, which has been closed for long, as an alternative to Tatopani border point.
The Mustang Customs Office has been collecting around Rs 300 million in revenue every day since the Rasuwa and Tatopani border points were closed.
