Politics that has become like musical cheer sent a message that all parties and leaders are one, which led to September 23 and 24: Gagan Thapa

Kathmandu. Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that Nepal’s politics has become like a ‘musical cheer’ due to the tendency of repeating the same face in power and leadership. He said that this tendency has sent a message to the people that all political parties and leaders are the same and all are bad.

In his address to an inaugural session of the party’s 15th general convention here today, Thapa said the tendency of a person who became the Prime Minister to become the Prime Minister again, the people who became the Prime Minister again and again and the people who became the ministers were trying to become the Prime Minister again and again, which has increased people’s disenchantment towards politics.

“It was like a musical cheer. I want to become the Prime Minister again, I want to become a leader again, I will continue to be a minister, I will not leave power,” Thapa said, “It sent a message that all parties and leaders are the same, all are bad.” ’

Stating that politics has dominated every sphere of society, Thapa said that from social media to public life, there has been excessive politicization. He said that the tendency to look at every issue from a political point of view has increased from Facebook to Twitter.

“There is a lot of politics. From Facebook to Twitter, there is politics in every field. Then the people went to hyperpolitics. Anyway, they started looking at it through the eyes of politics,” he said.

Thapa said that the dissatisfaction with the political parties and the leadership has gradually increased and has become like a ‘chaff fire’. He said that it has affected not only any one party or leader but the entire political system and leadership.

“This chaff fire consumed everyone at once,” he said.

Thapa said that there has not been enough dialogue with the people about the two-thirds majority government formed by the two parties and its working style. He said that the situation of September 7 and 24 was due to the failure of the political parties to understand the changing public sentiment and dissatisfaction in time.

“A two-thirds majority government was formed by the two parties. Not everyone knew, which led to September 23 and 24,” Thapa said.

He said that the leaders and cadres of other political parties, including the Congress, were also affected by the incidents of September 23 and 24. He recalled that the Congress went to the special general convention to take care of itself after learning from it.

“This is where we did not understand. The leaders and workers of the Congress and other parties also became victims. But we went to the special convention to take care of it,” he said.

He said that the NC went to the elections after the special general convention but the results could not come in its favor. Stating that the NC has been facing defeat and victory in various elections in the past as well, Thapa said that the party has now entered the phase of a new general convention.

“After that, we went to the elections, but it did not come in our favour. The Congress has been winning and losing many elections. Now we are in the new general convention,” he said.

Thapa said that the 15th general convention should be taken as an opportunity to take the Congress forward on a new political journey by reviewing the past shortcomings. He said that the Congress should change its leadership, behavior and political working style to overcome the growing political disillusionment among the people and distrust of the parties.
