Kathmandu. Former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has said that there should be competition among the political parties for the implementation of a clear and long-term plan for the development of the country.
Addressing the inaugural session of the 15th general convention of the Nepali Congress here today, Bhattarai said that a common development plan should be prepared with the goal of taking the country to the status of developed country within the next 20 years.
Giving examples of Malaysia, South Korea, Singapore and China making big strides in development in a short span of time, he said Nepal should make long-term plans accordingly.
“There is still time, everyone should think about it. How did other countries develop? If Malaysia, Korea, Singapore and China went from the Global South to the Global North in our lifetime, how will we reach there in the next 20 years?” he asked.
He also stressed the need of competition among the political parties to formulate a common plan for the country’s development and implement it.
“Let’s make a plan for it. Let’s compete on how all the parties will implement it. Only then will the country be built,” Bhattarai said.
Bhattarai also stressed that the new generation should be trusted for political stability. “Now let’s learn a lesson. Now we have to trust the new generation,” he said.
