KATHMANDU — The closed session of the Nepali Congress (NC) has been disrupted for the fourth day of its 15th general convention today.
Though the delegates were preparing to endorse various proposals and reports in today’s closed session, the closed session was affected due to sudden storm and rain, said Devraj Chalise.
The closed session, which was supposed to start at 10:30 am, was supposed to start from 11:30 a.m. after lunch time. But it has been affected due to sudden heavy rain accompanied by winds. The delegates of the convention have not been able to come to the Khula Manch.
The Congress is holding a closed session at the Khula Manch. The election committee is conducting the election at the dining venue at Bhrikutimandap and at the National Assembly Hall. Voting will be held tomorrow morning.

In the closed session, the delegates of the general convention are preparing to conclude the discussion on various resolutions and reports and pass them. Spokesperson Devraj Chalise said that all those who have access to the open session have been opened to enter the closed session. According to him, the closed session was also opened for all in the special convention earlier.
He informed that the closed session will also be broadcast live from the Facebook page of the Nepali Congress. In addition, other media will also be able to broadcast the closed session live.
The closed session will pass the political proposal on ‘national renaissance and prosperity’ presented by party president Gagan Kumar Thapa, the contemporary proposal on the ‘erosion of political culture and the responsibility of transformation in tune with the times’ presented by Vice-president Bishwo Prakash Sharma, the report of organization of General Secretary Gururaj Ghimire and the financial report of Treasurer Umesh Shrestha.
The delegates have been putting forth their views on the proposals and reports since Monday in the closed session. During the discussions, the delegates gave suggestions and opinions on the party’s future political direction, strengthening the organization, improvement in political culture and financial management.
NC’s Information, Communications and Technology Committee member Dr Suresh Acharya said the general convention delegates of all seven provinces as well as the party’s sister organisations and well-wishers also participated in the meeting.
According to him, the closed session will resume from 10:30 am, but there may be some delays. The process of passing proposals and reports will be forwarded by incorporating the remaining views and suggestions.
Speaker Thapa to address
After today’s program of the closed session, party president Gagan Kumar Thapa is scheduled to address the general convention delegates. The Congress is preparing to formally conclude the discussion of the closed session with the address of the president.
Extensive discussions are being held on the party’s future course of action and organizational structure in the general convention. After the receipt of the political, organizational and economic report from the closed session, the Congress general convention will move towards the process of selecting the leadership.
The candidacy has already been filed for the election of a new leadership in the 15th general convention of the Congress. Gagan Kumar Thapa, Shyam Krishna Khadki and Kishor Singh Rathore have filed their candidacies for the post of president. With the election process for the election of the leadership, the focus of the general convention will now be on the elections.
