Power generation resumes from Rahughat in 11 days

Kathmandu. The Rahughat Hydropower Project, which was damaged by the floods in the Kaligandaki River on September 26, has been repaired in 11 days and power generation has resumed. The flood had inundated the power house and damaged important structures and equipment. One unit of the project, 20 MW, was brought into operation on Thursday after completing necessary maintenance and technical work.

After generating electricity from the power house of the project, the tailrace gate used to send water to the Kaligandaki River was damaged by the flood. After that, water entered the power house from the tailrace and was inundated. Due to this, the project which had just completed the construction and started generating electricity on a trial basis was closed.

Ganesh KC, managing director of Raghuganga Hydropower Limited, the promoter of the project, said that a unit has been brought into operation after removing the water accumulated in the power house and repairing the structures and equipment damaged by the floods. “We have started generating electricity from one unit within 11 days after repairing the structures and equipment damaged by the floods.

The Rahughat Hydropower Project has two units with a capacity of 2020 MW. The electricity generated from the project will be transmitted to the national transmission system through the Kaligandaki Corridor 220 KV transmission line.
