Home Minister Gurung meets industrialists and businessmen on eve of BIMSTEC summit

KATHMANDU — Home Minister Sudhan Gurung today interacted with various prominent industrialists and businessmen of Nepal on the eve of the BIMSTEC Summit.

On the occasion, the industrialists and businesspersons presented their suggestions regarding the problems and challenges they have been facing in course of business operation and the initiatives that could be taken through the BIMSTEC Forum for resolving them.

On the occasion, Home Minister Gurung said the government was committed to trade facilitation, control of illegal import and creation of business-friendly environment by accepting the suggestions received from industrialists and businessmen.

Stating that the concept of a “digital border” would be forwarded to control smuggling and border management more effective, he underscored the need of strengthening the use of technology, surveillance and coordination along the border.

They also pledged to take forward the cooperation between Bureau of India Standards (BIS) and Nepal Standard (NS) on the issue of Certification and Certification in the bilateral talks to be held on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Summit to certify the quality of Nepali products and facilitate access to the international market.

On the occasion, he said that the incumbent government would not allow the incumbent government to create an investment-friendly environment and that the government would take effective initiatives for reforms in all sectors to create investment-friendly environment.

The programme will provide an opportunity to present practical problems, suggestions and expectations of industrialists and businesspersons to the government and it has prepared a ground for exchange of ideas on trade facilitation, border management, prevention of illegal trade and economic cooperation through regional forums such as BIMSTEC.
