Budhigandaki floods: Five out of contact, 82 rescued

Kathmandu. Five people have gone missing due to the flash flood in the Budhigandaki River in Gorkha. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, two women and three men of Ungling of Chumchet of Chumnubri Rural Municipality-6 have been out of contact with their families.
Spokesperson of the Authority, Shanti Mahat, said that 82 people including nine foreigners have been rescued from the affected areas so far by mobilizing four helicopters of the Nepal Army.TAG_OPEN_div_18
Two concrete and two suspension bridges, three hydropower projects, four havan kunds, 45 houses were completely damaged and 27 houses were partially damaged by the floods. Similarly, 34 cowsheds, 13 pig sheds and three vehicles were also damaged by the floods.TAG_OPEN_div_16
The preliminary analysis of the NRA is that the flood occurred due to the flooding caused by the flow of sewage from the Ungilung River near Chumling of Chumnubri Rural Municipality-6 in Gorkha. Further study of the flood is underway.
According to the authority, 50 tents, 50 tarpaulins, 200 mattresses, 200 blankets, 200 sleeping bags, 100 solar lights, 50 kitchen appliances, 10 generators, 130 jackets, 20 hygiene kits, 90 food packets, 10 baby baskets and 20 royal bags have been dispatched to the affected areas.TAG_OPEN_div_12
A three-member team with drones and geologists has been mobilized to find out the cause of the floods, according to the NRA. Similarly, 703 security personnel, including three special forces from the Nepal Army, 143 from the Nepal Police and 389 from the Armed Police Force, have been mobilized in the affected areas.TAG_OPEN_div_10
