Kosovo Seeks to Forge Diplomatic Ties with Nepal

Kathmandu . Kosovo has expressed keen interest in establishing formal diplomatic relations with Nepal, according to its ambassador to Bangladesh, Lulzim Pllana . Preparations for this move are currently underway.

Ambassador Pllana highlighted the commonalities between the two nations, both being landlocked countries have significant diaspora populations. He stated that Kosovo is ready to collaborate with Nepal in key sectors including tourism, information technology, and student exchanges at the university level. The Kosovo government has already initiated discussions regarding collaboration with Kathmandu University.

Recognized by 117 countries, Kosovo established its first diplomatic foothold in South Asia with Bangladesh. Bilateral trade with Nepal, though modest, exists, totaling NPR 537 million last fiscal year. Nepal primarily imports chocolates and clothing items from Kosovo, while exporting ropes, according to customs data.

This proposed diplomatic outreach marks Kosovo’s effort to expand its global engagement and foster mutual development with like-minded nations.
