Ncell dispute should be resolved soon: Minister Kharel

Kathmandu. Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel has said that the dispute of telecom service provider Ncell will be resolved soon. During his visit to the Ncell office in Nakkhu on Monday, Minister Kharel stressed on the need of resolving all disputes related to Ncell’s shares, payment obligations and other disputes as soon as possible.

Minister Kharel said, “Ncell’s business should be respected in the eyes of the state and citizens. There will be support from the government for clean business. ”

Minister Kharel expressed the belief that the government would take necessary initiatives to address the losses caused by Ncell. Minister Kharel said that the government was making efforts to resolve the problems seen with Ncell in recent period. “There are policy-level problems and disputes as well, although the government is confident that all these should be resolved in accordance with the law,” he said.

Minister Kharel inspected Ncell’s office and Data Center. On the occasion, Ncell Chairman Satish Lal Acharya and CEO Michael Foley welcomed Minister Kharel and briefed him about the losses incurred during the movement. Ncell has been providing its service from its Nakkhu-based office after Ncell’s Lainchaur central office was damaged during the Genji agitation on September 7. According to Ncell, the loss was estimated to be around Rs 650 million.

After the inspection, Minister Kharel said that he had come to inquire about the loss caused by Ncell. He also said that he is glad to hear that Ncell is bringing a ‘pack’ targeting Genji. “I had told them to do something for the students and Jenji, they said they would bring a new package, besides sharing their plan to increase telecom access at the Everest Base Camp and some remote places,” Minister Kharel said.

Stating that Ncell has suffered a big loss, he also said that they are ready to provide any support from the government. Ncell is also preparing to launch GenG packs targeting GenG and also announce GenG scholarships worth Rs 10 million to 100 students across the country. On behalf of Ncell, Minister Kharel was informed that the company was adding five more towers up to Gokharsep of Sagarmatha area and expanding its 4G service.

Chief Executive Officer of Ncell Michael Foley said that the services of Nepal’s telecom sector are not of international standard and the government should facilitate in a policy level. “Telecommunication service has become essential for the people in recent period, so the government should also pay attention to this”, he said. ”
