. Rabi Singh, president of the Federation of Contractors’ Associations of Nepal (FCAN), has said that the contractors have been terminated in a prejudiced manner. He said this at an interaction with stakeholders on ‘sick contract management’ organized by Nepal Infrastructure Journalists’ Society in collaboration with Federation of Contractors’ Associations of Nepal in Kathmandu on Tuesday.
He said that the contract was terminated in such a way that the contractor would become a ‘victim’.TAG_OPEN_div_22 He said that this move of the government has put the contractors on the verge of collapse. He said they were trying to kill the contractors.
‘The contract of 15 years has been terminated. But in these 15 years, has action been taken against the project chief? No. A company’s performance worth Rs 3.42 billion has been confiscated. Is the company now fit to be a director?” he asked, “Will we take action against the employees who do not extend the deadline for 29 months?”
He said that not only the infrastructure sector but also the economic sector would be affected if the contract was terminated.TAG_OPEN_div_18 “The supply chain is affected when the contract is terminated. It will affect the industries,” he said. Now the contractors have been insulted. He claimed that the contract was terminated so that the contractor could not stand up.
} He said that the contracts have been sick as the political leaders have given priority only to the central projects of their constituencies. “The secretaries, directors general and project heads are equally responsible as the political leadership. Out of the allocated budget of Rs 10 lakh, contract worth Rs 460 million is awarded. There is no preparatory work,” he said. They are propagandistic, not objective. ’
He also said that the government should work to prevent the contractor from becoming sick.TAG_OPEN_div_14 “The contract was terminated as soon as possible. The government should be able to work in such a way that contractors do not fall sick in the future,” he said, “Similarly, the NRB’s policy of blacklisting contractors has also made the contractors sick.” One company made a mistake in the JV contract has caused problems to other companies. ’
