10,800 MW Karnali Chisapani Hydropower Project: Minister Ghising

Kailali. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development Kulman Ghising has said that the government is going to conduct detailed engineering study of the 10,800-MW Karnali Chisapani Reservoir Hydropower Project.

At a programme organised at Durgauli of Janaki rural municipality of Kailali on Tuesday, Minister Ghising said that the detailed project report (DPR) of Karnali Chisapani project is being prepared through the Nepal Electricity Authority.

Minister Ghising said that mega projects such as Karnali-Chisapani which are linked to the prosperity of the country should be forwarded and these mega projects like Karnali-Chisapani could be developed as a model project of the South Asian region.

The government has already decided to conduct the study through the Karnali Chisapani Nepal Authority. The NRA has forwarded the process of selecting consultants for detailed study. According to Ghising, the problem of river erosion would be solved in the long run as the flow of the river would be controlled after the construction of the Karnali Chisapani Project.

He further shared that the process has been forwarded to set up a company to operate the 4.71-megawatt Rani Jamara Kulariya Irrigation Project.

Stating that the agreement to open the company has been sent to the Ministry of Finance, Minister Ghising said that the process of incorporation of the company will move forward after the decision of the Council of Ministers. He said that the economic prosperity of the far-western state could be achieved through the development of hydropower and tourism.
