Kathmandu. A total of 496 new cottage and small industries have been registered in the district till mid-December of the current fiscal year 2082÷83. Information Officer at the Cottage and Small Industries Office, Jhapa, Janaki Bhattarai, said that 243 firms related to industry and 253 commercial firms were registered at the Office during the period. During the period, 500 industries and 479 commerce related industries were renewed in the district.

According to Information Officer Bhattarai, 108 industries and 77 commercial industries were scrapped in the district in the first five months of the current fiscal year, with which 12 industries have been replaced, 28 industries have been named, 18 industries have been renamed and 36 industries have been renamed. Information Officer Bhattarai said although the number of people coming to the office to close down the industries is low, most of the industries that have not been renewed have already closed.

Information Officer Bhattarai said that the number of new additions is more than the number of industries closing due to various reasons. According to him, the office has collected Rs 8.8 million in revenue under various headings in the first five months of the current fiscal year.
