Kathmandu. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development Kul Man Ghising has released ‘Bamboo Design Guideline-2082’.
Minister Ghising said that the use of bamboo, which is the indigenous Nepali construction material, should be encouraged as construction material. He said that use of bamboo as a construction material would create employment opportunities and strengthen rural economy and would help reduce trade deficit by discouraging imported construction materials.
He suggested to look for alternatives to the roofs of Nepal’s settlements as seen from the sky. He said that the use of green construction materials would reduce the impact of climate change and have a positive impact on the economy. He also said that bamboo should be used in the construction of hydropower construction camps.
Habitat for Humanity Nepal’s Chief Eliza Sthapit expressed happiness over the release of the guideline and congratulated and thanked the Ministry of Urban Development for this historic work.
The guideline has set clear standards regarding the harvesting, grading, chemical treatment, storage and use of bamboo. A simple and easy design method to build earthquake-resistant, environment-friendly and cost-effective structures using bamboo has been included in the design of the house with necessary detailing.
