Kathmandu. In the first five months of the current fiscal year, the government’s outstanding public debt has reached Rs 2,788.53 billion.
According to the Public Debt Management Office, the total public debt stood at Rs 1,301.63 billion and Rs 1,486.90 billion respectively.
The outstanding public debt has increased by Rs 114.48 billion till mid-December as compared to the last fiscal year. Public debt stood at Rs 2,674.04 billion as of mid-July.
This debt is 45.66 percent of Nepal’s gross domestic product (GDP).
Out of the target of mobilizing Rs 595 billion public loan in the current fiscal year, Rs 178.12 billion has been received in the first five months of the current fiscal year. The total public loan receipt is 29.40 per cent against the annual target.
In the first five months, Rs 175.12 billion was received and Rs 167.01 billion was repaid. Out of the total paid, Rs 138.30 billion is principal and the rest Rs 28.70 billion is interest.
