Export of Chhurpi from Mechi Customs Office increases by 32 percent to Rs 485 million

Cover. According to the Mechi Customs Office, the export of chhurpi produced in Nepal has increased by 32 percent.

Information Officer at the Mechi Customs Office, Ishwar Kumar Humagain, said that 275,246 kg chhurpi worth Rs 485.27 million was exported through Kakarvitta of the eastern border point in the first five months of the current fiscal year 2082/83.

Compared to the same period last year, exports increased by 32 percent. According to him, 217,068 kg chhurpi worth Rs 367.623 million was exported from mid-July to mid-December of the last fiscal year.

In the current fiscal year, the export of chhurpi has increased by Rs 11.76 crore. Kakarvitta is the main transit point for Nepali chhurpi exports. Chhurpi is in the fourth position in the list of top 10 goods exported from Mechi Customs.

Chhurpi is produced from dairy products in hilly and mountainous districts. Most of the chhurpi is exported to Europe and America. In those countries, it is used as food for dogs and cats.

Rishi Timsina, general secretary of Nepal Chhurpi Entrepreneurs Association, said that Koshi Province has 80 percent share of chhurpi produced in Nepal. General Secretary Timsina complained that the government has not paid attention to promote the production and business of Chhurpi, a major product exported from Nepal.
