Nawalparasi. A bridge has been constructed over Kerunge River at Kawasoti of Nawalpur in Nawalparasi (East Bardaghat Susta) in the eight years since the construction began. The bridge was started in 2075 BS and it was completed in eight years.

The Adventure Construction Company had started the construction of the bridge in 2077 BS. Narayan Prasad Lohani, ward chairman of Kawasoti Municipality-4, said that the bridge has been completed after the deadline was extended time and again. Ward Chair Lohani said the construction of a bridge over Kerunge rivulet linking Kawasoti municipality-3 and 4 has eased the mobility of the locals. The 140-metre-long bridge was constructed at the cost of Rs 105 million.

Locals have been facing problems due to the delay in the construction of the bridge for a long time, said Chairperson Lohani. Chairman Lohani said that the compulsion to travel through the river during the rainy season as well as to travel through the river during other times has ended. “There was trouble in absence of the bridge, there was compulsion to go out of the market area from elsewhere during floods, now that compulsion has been removed,” said Lohani, adding, “The construction of the bridge has eased the people’s movement.”

The bridge constructed through the Road Division Office, Bharatpur has made it easier for the people of Hupsekot Rural Municipality to reach the district headquarters Kawasoti. Rukmangat Bhurtel, a local of Hupsekot, said that the bridge has made it easier for the locals of Hupsekot to reach the district headquarters quickly.

“We had to travel through Danda to reach the district headquarters, but now we can reach Kawasoti directly from Hasoura via New Bridge,” Bhurtel said.
