Kathmandu. The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) has launched a special drive to meet its national tourism targets for 2026, said senior Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) senior official Buddhika Hewassam.

SLTDA president Hewassam said it would launch promotional campaigns focused on key European markets to attract visitors in the coming months, which has traditionally been less travellers.

As part of a broader tourism strategy, Sri Lanka recently conducted promotional programs in major Indian cities to diversify the country’s Indian tourist base and attract more visitors.

Sri Lanka has made a strong start to 2026 with over 94,000 tourist arrivals in the first week of January 2026.

Tourism is said to be the main foreign revenue producer and the basis of economic development for Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is expected to receive 3 million tourists in 2026.
