Syangja. Pokhara—The Cooperatives Registrar’s Office, Pokhara, has scrapped the registration of 26 cooperatives which were defunct. The office has scrapped the registration of 26 cooperatives, including 13 in the last fiscal year 2081÷82 and 13 in the current fiscal year.

Bhesh Raj Rijal, Registrar of the Cooperative Registration Office, Pokhara, said that the cooperatives that have not been registered or have not been inactive for more than two years, have not conducted audit, have not held general meeting, have not done financial transactions and are not in a position to operate now.

The office has scrapped the registration of defunct cooperatives in Syangja, Gorkha, Tanahun, Kaski, Myagdi, Lamjung, Baglung and Parbat districts. The highest number of cooperatives registered in Syangja district have been revoked. The registration of eight cooperatives in Syangja district has been scrapped.

According to him, the registration of all eight cooperatives in Syangja has been scrapped in the current fiscal year. According to Rijal, the registration of cooperatives has been scrapped, 6 in Gorkha, 4 in Tanahun, 3 in Kaski, 2 in Myagdi and one each in Lamjung, Baglung and Parbat÷. The cooperatives that will be scrapped are multi-purpose cooperatives, savings and loan, agriculture, consumer, information and communication, electricity, beekeeping and ginger production.

“The process of scrapping the registration of cooperatives has been completed in seven cases”, he said, adding that the remaining 10 cooperatives are in the process of scrapping the registration and the process of rejecting the registration would be further intensified. “There are 890 cooperatives in the Cooperatives Registrar’s Office, Pokhara.

Of these, 588 cooperatives are currently in operation. 302 cooperatives are defunct. Various thematic associations and cooperatives related to cooperatives are defunct. Among these inactive associations and cooperatives, 50 are defunct in the district alone.
