 Narayanghat-Butwal road of national pride: Bridges constructed in eastern section 

Nawalparasi. The construction of bridges along the eastern section of the Narayanghat-Butwal road section has been completed. According to the Narayanghat-Butwal Road Project (eastern section), 33 bridges out of 34 bridges have been constructed.

According to Engineer Shiva Khanal, information officer of the project, the construction of bridges on the eastern section of the road project has been completed with the completion of the eighth span of the Arun Khola bridge.TAG_OPEN_div_26 China State Engineering Construction Corporation Limited was awarded the contract to construct 22 small bridges up to 25 meters in length and 12 bridges over 25 meters long. According to Khanal, 22 small and 12 big bridges have been constructed.

Although the construction of small bridges has been completed and brought into operation, not all the bridges have come into operation as the big bridges are under construction.TAG_OPEN_div_24 “With the operation of the Girubari River Bridge at Chormara bazaar last week, traffic has been operated from 33 bridges”, said Engineer Khanal, adding, “We have expedited the construction of the approach road from the Arun Khola bridge which is yet to be operated before the March 4 elections.” Khanal informed that the road expansion work in the eastern section has been moving ahead in a speedy manner.

Khanal said that the construction of culverts is in the final stage as some culverts are yet to be constructed in Daunne section due to the difficult geographical structure of this section.TAG_OPEN_div_22 According to Khanal, out of around 65 kilometers of the road from Narayanghat to Daunne, the blacktopped road can be used in almost all places except Daunne. “Road widening works in Daunne have also been speeded up”, he said, adding, “The road expansion works are being carried out by grading the road without blacktopping due to the difficult earthquake in Daunne. ”

Information Officer Engineer Khanal said that 76 percent physical progress has been made so far in the eastern section of the Narayanghat-Butwal road expansion project.TAG_OPEN_div_20 According to Khanal, the two-way blacktopping work has been completed in all places except Daunne road section, some parts of Arun Khola and some parts of Dumkibas in the eastern section. He said that the road construction work is still pending in the Daunne area, making the journey easier.

He said that lane marking work is being done to distinguish the road lane at the place where the two-way road has been blacktopped and additional service lane is being constructed in the service lane.TAG_OPEN_div_18 Of the 14 kilometres of the road, four kilometres are in the eastern section. According to Khanal, works like cutting down the remaining hill, constructing the remaining culverts, increasing the width of the road and filling stones in the mesh from below are going on in Daunne, adding that 215 culverts will be constructed along the section.

The government of Nepal had signed an agreement with China State Engineering Construction Corporation Limited on February 7, 2022 for the expansion of the Narayanghat-Butwal road.TAG_OPEN_div_16 The road expansion works, which had been agreed to be completed within 42 months of the beginning of the construction, have moved ahead at a snail’s pace. The government has extended the deadline for the construction company four times and extended the deadline for the construction company by July 22.

The 114-kilometer-long Narayanghat-Butwal road section has been divided into two sections.TAG_OPEN_div_14 The responsibility of both sections has been given to China State Engineering Construction Corporation Limited. The construction works are being carried out with 85 percent loan assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) of the two sections.
