Indian vehicles flock to Parsa district for election campaigning, CDO directs candidates not to use Indian number plates

Kathmandu. The District Security Committee of Parsa has monitored 60 out of 167 polling stations in Parsa for the upcoming House of Representatives election on March 4.

A team led by the Chief District Officer of Parsa district has inspected the polling stations and centers and made necessary preparations for possible security risks. Chief District Officer Bhola Dahal said that he has inspected 60 out of 167 polling stations in the district and works are on to formulate necessary security strategy for the polling stations.

“We are inspecting the polling stations on a daily basis and devising additional strategies to address the security challenges seen there,” he said. Necessary security strategy is also being prepared in view of the challenges seen in the inspection. ’

On the occasion, Chief District Officer Dahal said the district administration was making the necessary coordination to conduct the elections in a peaceful and fear-free manner. “It is necessary for all bodies to move ahead by coordinating and collaborating from their respective places to hold the election in a fear-free and peaceful manner,” he said, urging the candidates, general public and media persons to also abide by the election code of conduct. ’

CDO Dahal said they were making efforts to beef up peace and security during the election as the district has an open border of 107 kilometres. Parsa Police Chief Sudip Raj Pathak said that necessary security arrangements have been made for the election.

Chief of the District Election Office, Anamika Rauniyar, said that the voter education related publicity programme is being forwarded. “The election code of conduct prohibits the election candidates from using vehicles bearing Indian number plates. Candidates need to be aware of this. ’

Of the 167 polling stations in the district, 62 have been categorised as ‘very sensitive’. There are 34 polling stations in Province No. 1, 38 in Constituency No. 2, 47 in Constituency No. 3 and 48 in Constituency No. 4. Of the 167 polling stations in Parsa, 62 have been categorised as highly sensitive, 85 as sensitive and 20 as low sensitive. There are 441 polling centres and two temporary polling centres in the district.

There are four constituencies in the district – 103 constituencies in Province No. 1, 110 in Province No. 2 and 114 constituencies in Province No. 3 and 414. The total number of voters in Parsa district is 376,513. Of them, 164,421 are female, 212,077 male and 15 are from sexual and gender minority communities.
