Still. Tanahun: Vice-President of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Dr Swarnim Wagle, has been elected to the House of Representatives from Tanahun constituency-1.
According to Chief Election Officer Bishnu Prasad Upadhyay, Wagle secured 38,040 votes.
His nearest rival was NC’s Govinda Bhattarai who got 16,231 votes. Similarly, Bhagawati Neupane of CPN-UML got 5,830 votes and Bidhyanath Dhakal of Nepali Communist Party got 2,393 votes.
Of the total 126,882 voters in the constituency, 68,129 votes were cast. Dr Wagle has been elected from Tanahun constituency-1 for the second time.
In the by-election held on Baisakh 10, 2080 BS, Dr. Wagle won the election with 34,911 votes. His rival was Govinda Bhattarai of Nepali Congress. Bhattarai garnered 20,122 votes.
Who is Wagle ?
Born in Bungkot of Gorkha district in 2031 BS, Dr Wagle was elected to the House of Representatives from Tanahun constituency in the by-election held in Baisakh 2080 BS.
Wagle, who is also a member of the National Planning Commission, has also served as the Chief Economic Advisor of UNDP Asia Pacific. After completing his higher education from the London School of Economics, Harvard University and Australian National University, Wagle returned to Nepal in 2071 BS.
Wagle is a well-known economist, policy expert and politician of Nepal. He is known as a person with deep knowledge and experience in economic policy, development planning and public policy.
