Kathmandu. The results of the election to the House of Representatives, which were held amidst the special political situation created after the ‘Jenji’ agitation on September 7 and 24, are in the final stage.
The results of most of the constituencies have been announced while the counting of votes under the proportional representation system is still underway. However, this time the election has brought a strong entry of a new generation in Nepali politics.
Youths below 35 years of age have got remarkable success in the election to the House of Representatives this time. The presence of the new generation in the parliament is now seen in large numbers.
Especially, many young people who had filed their candidacies from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) have won with impressive votes in various constituencies. Their victory also sends a message that they want to give opportunities to new ideas.
It remains to be seen how far these young parliamentarians who have entered the parliament can meet the expectations of the people. The result of this election has certainly given new energy to the debate on generational change in Nepali politics. The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has elected 20 candidates under 35.
Similarly, 23 candidates below 35 years of age, including one from the Nepali Congress, one from the Labour and Culture Party and one from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party have been elected. Sobita Gautam, 30, is in the top list of lawmakers below 35 years of age. Gautam, who was born in Jamune of Tamakoshi Rural Municipality in Dolakha district, was elected from Chitwan-3 as a central member of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
He garnered 59,277 votes. His nearest rival was NC’s nearest rival Renu Dahal who got 20,615 votes. At the age of 30, she became a member of the House of Representatives for the second time. She had won the House of Representatives election from Kathmandu-2 in 2079 BS. Advocate Gautam, who graduated in law, won with a huge number of votes.
Another lawmaker, 35, is Sulav Kharel. Born in Butwal in September 1990, Kharel is another candidate to become a member of parliament at the age of 28. He was elected to the House of Representatives from Rupandehi-2 with 56,550 votes. His nearest rival was CPN-UML’s Bishnu Paudel who got 12,861 votes. He completed his five-year BA and LLB studies from Nepal Law Campus.
Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) candidate Rubina Acharya has been elected to the House of Representatives from Morang-6. Acharya, who was born in Biratnagar, got 55,513 votes while his nearest rival Dr Shekhar Koirala of Nepali Congress got 12,850 votes.
Likewise, Badan Kumar Bhandari has been elected to the House of Representatives from Kavrepalanchowk constituency-2 on behalf of Rastriya Swatantra Party. Badan was elected from Bhumlu Rural Municipality-2 with 53,344 votes. His nearest rival was NC’s Madhu Prasad Acharya who got 17,868 votes. Bhandari is also an e-commerce entrepreneur and media person. Bhandari, 33, holds a Bachelor’s degree (BA).
Similarly, 29-year-old Nisha Dangi, who was elected from Jhapa constituency-1 on a Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) ticket, also became a member of parliament at a young age. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2079 BS under the proportional representation category. Dangi got the opportunity to become a candidate under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) category this time. She garnered 45,680 votes. His nearest rival was NC’s Keshav Raj Pandey who got 10,550 votes.
Born in Bhadrapur municipality of Jhapa in 2053 BS, Dangi completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Jaya Multiple Campus, Kathmandu and Master’s Degree in Journalism from Tribhuvan University.
Manish Khanal, 26, was elected to the House of Representatives from Nawalpur constituency-2 on a Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) ticket. He garnered 41,347 votes. His nearest rival Til Bahadur Mahat Chhetri of CPN-UML secured 15,755 votes. A resident of Madhyabindu municipality-6, Khanal was born on June 24, 2056 BS. He completed his bachelor’s degree in law from Nepal Law Campus.
Bablu Gupta, 28, was also elected. He was elected to the House of Representatives from Siraha constituency-1 on a Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) ticket. Gupta, who is active in social work, has completed his graduation. He garnered 41,322 votes. His nearest rival was NC’s Ram Sundar Chaudhary who got 9,774 votes.
Santosh Rajbanshi is another candidate under 35 years of age from the RSP. 34-year-old Rajbanshi was elected from Morang-4. Similarly, Shiva Shankar Yadav, 30, of Rastriya Janata Party (RSP) was elected from Siraha-2. Similarly, 33-year-old Tapeshwar Yadav of the Rastriya Janata Party (RSP) was elected from Siraha constituency-4. Similarly, 34-year-old Deepak Kumar Sah has been elected from Mahottari-2 from Rastriya Janata Party (RSP). Ujjwal Kumar Jha, 33, has been elected from Mahottari-3.
Rastriya Swatantra Party candidate Sasmit Pokharel, 29, has been elected from Kathmandu-5. Pokharel was born in Kathmandu on Falgun 1, 2052 BS and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law. He is the central member and joint spokesperson of the RSP.
He has also worked as an advisor to the Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Balendra Shah.
Prashant Upreti, 25, of Rastriya Swatantra Party won the election from Makawanpur-2. Upreti was born in Makwanpur in 2057 BS and is a tourism entrepreneur by profession. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Tourism Management.
Another 34-year-old candidate for election is Sagar Dhakal. He was elected from Gulmi-1 on a Rastriya Janata Party (RSP) ticket. Dhakal, who has a permanent address at Pipalneta of Satyawati Rural Municipality-6 in Gulmi, is an engineer by profession.
Another lawmaker below 35 years of age is 31-year-old Sushant Vaidik, who was elected from Pyuthan-1. Ranju Neupane (Darshana) is another popular name under 35 years of age who was elected from Kathmandu-1. Ranju, 30, who emerged as an alternative politician, has completed bachelor’s degree.
Another elected lawmaker from the RSP is 34-year-old Som Sharma. He was elected from Baglung-2. Rastriya Janajatantra Party (RSP) candidate Jhabilal Dumre won from Syangja-2 securing 25,354 votes.
Saptari-2 candidate Ramji Yadav, 30, of Rastriya Swatantra Party won the election with 28,404 votes.
In Kailali-2, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) candidate KP Khanal won with 19,057 votes. The 26-year-old Khanal has been active in social campaigns for the past 13 years and has also led nationwide cleanliness campaigns like ‘Clean Kasthamandap’ and ‘Kathmandu Tress Collection’. He established an orphanage in Bajura through ‘Maina Devi Foundation’, helped more than 200 poor families during the COVID-19 period and led humanitarian campaigns like ‘Bhukai Chha Humla’.
Tapeshwar Yadav, 33, was elected from Siraha-4 of Rastriya Swatantra Party. Ujjwal Kumar Jha, 33, has been elected from Mahottari-3.
Similarly, 31-year-old Sushant Vaidik was elected from Pyuthan-1. Similarly, 32-year-old Yogesh Gauchan of Nepali Congress was elected from Thakali Mustang-1. Similarly, 34-year-old Gyan Bahadur Shahi of Rastriya Prajatantra Party won from Jumla-1. Aren Rai, 29, of Labour and Culture Party was elected from Khotang-1. -Pragati Dhakal/RSS
