. China has pledged two million dollars in humanitarian aid to parents of students killed in a deadly missile attack on a school in Iran at the start of the Middle East war.

Iran has accused the United States and Israel of attacking the school in southern Iran on the first day of the war. According to local media, at least 165 people were cremated. There is no independent confirmation of the incident and the U.S. military is investigating.

Beijing’s foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiaqun said the attacks on schools and children amounted to a “grave violation” of international humanitarian law. “This is an act that violates the basis of human conscience and morality,” he said. China stands ready to support the Iranian people in this difficult time. ”

The Chinese Red Cross Society will provide “condolences and compensation” to the parents of the deceased students through the Iranian Red Crescent.

The New York Times has published a report that a U.S. Tomahawk missile accidentally hit a school. Israel said it had nothing to do with the attack.

U.S. President Donald Trump initially suggested Iran might be responsible, but later made it clear that “I will respond based on the results of the investigation.”
