Kathmandu. Nepal has received commitments for foreign direct investment amounting to Rs 40.66 billion in the first eight months of the current fiscal year.
According to the Department of Industry, 554 projects of foreign investment have been approved till mid-March.
According to the department, Rs 21.90 billion was invested in industries based on agriculture and forest products during the period. This amount has been allocated for 14 projects.
Similarly, the tourism sector is the second project where most of the investment has been approved. A total of Rs 11.02 billion has been committed for 155 projects in the tourism sector.
Similarly, commitment of Rs 3.62 billion has been made for 38 projects in the service sector. According to the department, commitment of Rs 2.52 billion has been received in 37 projects related to manufacturing sector, Rs 1.30 billion in 307 projects related to information and communication technology and Rs 184.25 million in energy sector.
However, no investment has been made in the infrastructure sector. According to the Department, out of 554 projects, 537 projects are small industries, eight are medium and eight are medium industries.
The construction of these projects will provide employment to 21,495 Nepalis.
According to the department, 30 projects worth Rs 386 million have been approved in the month of February.
