Kavrepalanchok. An employee at the Division Road Office, Bhaktapur died after he was swept away by the flooded Roshi River following incessant rainfall on Friday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Kunsang Tamang, 40, of Roshi rural municipality-7, according to the Area Police Office, Mangaltar. A preliminary investigation showed that Tamang, the supervisor of the office, was working at the under-construction BP Highway at night, said Police Inspector Ishwor Karki, chief of Mangaltar Area Police Office. According to him, Tamang was swept away by the flood while trying to cross the river at night. According to the police, a motorcycle and an electric vehicle were swept away by the floods.

Meanwhile, the BP Highway has been obstructed due to incessant rainfall on Friday evening. Vehicular movement along the Bhakunde-Nepalthok road section has been obstructed due to landslides and mudslides at different places of Roshi rural municipality along the Bhakunde-Nepalthok road section since 6.00 pm on Friday.

According to the District Traffic Police Office, Kavrepalanchowk, vehicular movement along the highway has been obstructed due to landslides and floods at Biruwadanda, Kaldhunga, Chaukidanda and Mangaltar. Police Inspector Sunil Dhanju, chief of the Office, said that efforts are underway to clear the landslide debris with the help of the Department, Nepal Police, Traffic Police and locals since this morning.

According to Dhanju, it was very difficult to clear the landslide due to the windy and incessant rain on Friday. A temporary road was constructed from the river itself after the road was damaged by floods and landslides last year.

Meanwhile, the traffic police have halted the vehicular movement at different places along the BP Highway since Friday evening as the road has been obstructed at several places along the Roshi area due to incessant rain. Dhanju said that the vehicles have been stopped at Kavrebhanjyang and Bhakunde of Dhulikhel and Nepalthok and Mangaltar from the east.
