Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The government is to make policy arrangement for energy export, which has been in demand for a long time.

A meeting of the Council of Ministers held soon after the formation of the new government on Friday stated that a strategy would be prepared within a month for the greater development of the energy sector as well as for export.

Nepal has been exporting hydropower to India and Bangladesh by token. It will be made more clear and implementable in terms of policy. The strategy will be finalised within a month.

Similarly, the agreement related to the purchase and purchase of power that the private sector has been demanding for a long will be signed within 180 days. The deadline for further expanding hydropower production and signing the agreement as per the demand of the private sector has also been fixed.

The government has made it clear that the decision on power purchase agreement and license would be made within a maximum of 180 days.

The objective is to develop the country’s energy sector as the major basis for economic transformation and to ensure rapid development by instantly removing obstacles related to power generation, transmission, distribution and export.

Similarly, the government is preparing to immediately implement a strategy to focus electricity export on high-value markets, especially during evening peak. The action plan includes preparing a roadmap related to structural reforms of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and immediately taking the implementation process forward.

Similarly, a multi-dimensional financial structure (government, private, foreign and diaspora investment) will be developed for the management of long-term financial resources of the energy sector. It is included in the public statement today that the concerned bodies will set a clear timeline for the implementation of such reform action plan.
