Kathmandu. Saudi Arabia has made a significant achievement in the field of space by successfully launching the Shams satellite. According to the Saudi Press Agency, the satellite was sent into space as part of the Artemis-2 mission via the Space Launch System.

With this success, Saudi Arabia became the first Arab nation to participate in the Artemis mission, which is seen as a historic achievement in the field of space.

The Artemis-2 mission is the second phase of an international cooperation program aimed at accelerating space research and technology development. Through this mission, different countries are jointly collaborating in new technology development, scientific research and space exploration.

The SHAMS satellite would operate in elliptical orbit with an altitude of 500 km to 70,000 km. Such an orbit gives the satellite the ability to cover a wide area around the Earth, which makes it easier to monitor solar activity and radiation in detail.

The data obtained from the satellite is expected to make an important contribution to space meteorological research. This will make the study of the effects of solar activity—such as on communications systems, satellite operations, and electrical infrastructure—more effective.

The launch also reflects Saudi Arabia’s long-term strategy to develop its space sector. The country aims to encourage innovation in technology, produce skilled manpower and expand international partnerships.

According to experts, the Shams satellite will not only propel Saudi Arabia to new heights in space science and research, but also play a stronger role in global scientific cooperation.
