Parliament House construction delayed by three and a half years, 94 per cent completed

Kathmandu. Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dol Prasad (DP) Aryal has expressed concern over the construction of the parliament building.

During a discussion with the officials of the Ministry of Urban Development and representatives of the construction company today, Minister Yadav directed the officials of the Ministry of Urban Development to complete the construction work on the stipulated time.

National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Ruby Kumari and National Assembly Vice-Chair Leela Kumari Bhandari were present in the meeting.

An agreement for the construction of the parliament building was signed with Tundi Sheikh JV on October 3, 2019 at a cost of Rs 7.94 billion. Although the deadline was set to be completed within three years, the deadline has already been extended six times. As per the latest agreement, the project has been asked to be completed by May 9.

According to the Ministry of Urban Development, 94 percent of the construction work has been completed so far.

KC Shyam Sundar Baniya JV was awarded the contract for the interior of the building at a cost of Rs 2.34 billion while Chainlink Engineering was awarded the contract for Rs 38 million.
