Kathmandu. Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Ervani, condemned the violation of Iran’s sovereignty and called on the United Nations to take action against US troops.
In a letter sent to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the president of the UN Security Council, Erwani condemned what he called an act of aggression that endangers regional and international peace and security. “Imposing the sanctions is a grave violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he said. On April 12, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) publicly declared military terrorism.
He said that the US has declared terrorism in violation of Article 2 and Article 4 of the UN Charter.
“The illegal blockade violates international law on the sea,” he said. “By attempting to disrupt maritime traffic to and from Iranian ports, the United States is interfering in the exercise of Iran’s sovereign rights and violating the rights of third states and legitimate maritime trade in accordance with international law,” the letter said.
Iran has rejected and condemned the US “illegal actions” and said it reserves its “inherent right” to take measures to safeguard its sovereignty, territorial integrity and national interests.
“The United States must bear full responsibility for all its consequences, including irresponsible actions internationally and with adverse effects on regional and international peace and security,” he said.
Calling for immediate international intervention, Iran’s envoy called on the UN Security Council to condemn the blockade and take steps to de-escalate tensions.
In a letter to the United Nations, Erwani highlighted America’s continued violations of international law against Iran.
Meanwhile, the U.S. military currently maintains a presence of at least 15 warships in the Middle East, citing a U.S. official who cited a U.S. official as saying that the military could take part in a maritime blockade of Iran’s ports following President Donald Trump’s order.
The US President has imposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports after talks in Pakistan failed to reach an agreement.
