Foreign investment commitment of Rs 42 billion in 9 months: Highest in agriculture, more than 22,000 jobs

Kathmandu. Nepal has received foreign direct investment (FDI) commitment of Rs 41.79 billion in the first nine months of the current fiscal year.

According to the Department of Industry, the commitment for foreign investment has been made for 615 projects till mid-April.

According to the department, Rs 22.08 billion was invested in agriculture and forestry based industries during the period. This amount has been committed for 16 projects.

Similarly, the tourism sector is the second project where most of the investment has been approved. A total of Rs 11.46 billion has been committed for 164 projects in the tourism sector.

Similarly, commitment of Rs 3.89 billion has been received for 47 projects in the service sector. According to the department, commitment of Rs 2.54 billion has been received in 38 projects related to manufacturing sector, Rs 1.45 billion in 346 projects related to information and communication technology and Rs 234.25 million in two projects related to energy sector.

However, no investment has been made in the infrastructure sector. According to the Department, out of 615 projects, 599 projects are small industries, eight are medium and eight are medium industries. The construction of these projects will provide employment to 23,316 Nepalis.

According to the department, 49 projects worth Rs 660.6 million were approved in the month of March.
