Kathmandu. Vehicles and spare parts worth Rs 26.13 billion have been imported through Birgunj border point in the first nine months of the current fiscal year. In the same period of the last fiscal year, imports increased by Rs 6.94 billion or 36.19 per cent. Whereas in the first nine months of the last fiscal year, vehicles and spare parts worth Rs 19.19 billion were imported.
Udaya Singh Bista, information officer at the Birgunj Customs Office, said that the import of vehicles and spare parts has increased in the current fiscal year. Revenue of Rs 18.22 billion has been collected from the import of auto parts in the first nine months of the current fiscal year. In the same period of the last fiscal year, revenue of Rs 14.84 billion was collected from the import of vehicles.
In the first nine months of the current fiscal year, 591 fuel-powered jeeps, cars and vans were imported worth Rs 1.17 billion. In the same period of the last fiscal year, 805 fuel-powered jeeps, cars and vans were imported worth Rs 1.66 billion. A total of 45,620 motorcycles (unassembled) worth Rs 6.42 billion were imported in the first nine months of the current fiscal year. In the first nine months of the last fiscal year, Nepal imported 35,799 motorcycles worth Rs 4.67 billion.
Likewise, 21,639 tractors and tillers worth Rs 2.04 billion were imported in the first nine months of the current fiscal year. In the first nine months of the last fiscal year, 13,861 tractors and tillers worth Rs 1.35 billion were imported.
Electric vehicles worth Rs 2.98 billion have been imported in the first nine months of the current fiscal year. In the first nine months of the last fiscal year, electric vehicles were imported by 102 percent or Rs 1.5 billion more than in the corresponding period of the last fiscal year. In the first nine months of the last fiscal year, electric vehicles worth Rs 1.48 billion were imported.
A total of 493 electric jeeps, cars and vans worth Rs 1.46 billion were imported in the first nine months of the current fiscal year. In the same period of the last fiscal year, 172 electric jeeps, cars and vans worth Rs 480 million were imported.
