Kathmandu. The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCA) has formally inaugurated the up-gradation of the 40-km Dhankhola-Lamahi road section along the East-West Highway today. For the first time in Nepal, advanced advanced construction techniques ‘Full Depth Reclamation’ and ‘Superpave Asphalt’ are being used for the upgradation and maintenance of the road.
By building strong and durable roads, reusing existing asphalt materials, and minimizing environmental impact, the system will help make the investment in road maintenance more reliable and cost-effective in the long run. The project will also widen the road to 12 meters by constructing a seven-meter-wide carriageway and a two-and-a-half-meter wide soldier on both sides of the road.
On the occasion, Chief Minister of Lumbini Province, Chet Narayan Acharya, lauded the use of modern technology such as FDR and Superpave to improve the quality of roads and ensure durability. “This is an important step forward for our province and its people, who depend on this highway every day. “This road section will not only make travel safer and more reliable but also create new opportunities for local businessmen, farmers and entrepreneurs,” he said.
Acting US Ambassador to Nepal Scott Urban said, The inauguration of the up-gradation of the Dhankhola-Lamahi road section is an important milestone in the context of the partnership between the United States and Nepal. Through the MCC Nepal Compact, we are investing in high-quality, sustainable infrastructure that will reduce transportation costs, increase safety, and connect communities to markets and opportunities. This project reflects our belief in Nepal’s future and our joint commitment to sustainable economic growth. ’
Sushil Babu Dhakal, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, said, “MCA-Nepal Investment is prepared to complement the plans and programs of the Government of Nepal. This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to building resilient infrastructure and expanding economic opportunities for our communities. The project is expected to be completed on time. ’
“This significant step reflects MCC’s commitment to helping Nepal build robust and cost-effective infrastructure, using cutting-edge technology to ensure long-term performance,” said Sanjay Poudyal, MCC’s Deputy Director for National Resident at MCC.
